Tonya Klem, EdS, NCSPFounder and OwnerI am a school psychologist, a wife, and a mother of two beautiful boys, one who has dyslexia. My career started in 1995 as a counselor working with teenagers in residential settings. After moving to Wisconsin in 2008, I earned my Ed. S. and national certification (NCSP) in school psychology. For several years, I worked as a school psychologist in various school settings across Wisconsin before seeking my license for private practice. I am a member of the Wisconsin School Psychologist Association (WSPA), the National Association of School Psychologist (NASP), the International Dyslexia Association (IDA), and Wisconsin Branch International Dyslexia Association (WIBIDA). In addition to my private practice, I continue to do contract work in the school setting and enjoy being an adjunct lecturer at the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
I became licensed as a private practitioner and began my private practice after encountering the limitations of public education evaluations. Schools have a role and responsibility to evaluate and identify students who have an educational disability as defined by federal and state law. (Please visit my special education page for details regarding special education law.) However, there are many students who have academic difficulties but are never evaluated by the schools. Often, these students and parents are left feeling frustrated year after year and not knowing where to turn for help. |
