Psychological Testing & Evaluation: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

General

What types of psychological evaluations do you offer?
We provide comprehensive psychological evaluations for children (ages 6+), adolescents, and adults. These include assessments for neurodevelopmental disorders (such as autism, ADHD, and learning disabilities), mental health conditions (including anxiety, depression, OCD, bipolar disorder, and more), and disability evaluations for diagnostic clarification and treatment planning.

What does a psychological evaluation involve?
The evaluation process typically includes an initial clinical interview, standardized tests, rating scales, and input from parents, teachers, or other relevant sources. Each assessment is tailored to your specific concerns and needs.

How are the testing sessions structured?
Testing sessions are typically completed in one day, but in some cases may be scheduled over two separate days, depending on individual needs or age. During the testing session, breaks will be taken as needed to ensure comfort and optimal performance.

Can any parts of the evaluation be completed virtually?
Yes. The initial clinical interview and results meeting may be offered virtually. All psychological testing sessions are conducted in person at our Eden Prairie office.

How long does the testing take?
  • Comprehensive Neurodevelopmental Evaluation: 5–7 hours of direct testing
  • Comprehensive Mental Health Evaluation: 2–4 hours of direct testing
  • Abbreviated ADHD Evaluation: 2–3 hours of direct testing
  • All evaluations include a separate results meeting to review findings and recommendations.

Process & Results

What should I expect during the evaluation process?
You’ll begin with an intake and clinical interview (which can be virtual or in person), followed by in-person testing sessions. After scoring and interpretation, we will schedule a results meeting (virtual or in person) to discuss findings and recommendations. We aim to hold your results meeting within two to three weeks after your testing session.

Will I receive a written report?
Yes, you will receive a comprehensive written report summarizing the results, diagnostic impressions, and individualized recommendations.

How are recommendations tailored to my needs?
We provide personalized recommendations based on your unique profile, which may include treatment suggestions, educational or workplace accommodations, and strategies for support.

How soon will I get my results?
We aim to schedule your results meeting within two to three weeks after your testing session.

Payment & Insurance

Are psychological evaluations covered by insurance?
Our evaluations are self-pay and considered out-of-network (OON) for insurance. Many insurance plans offer partial reimbursement for evaluation services, but coverage varies. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to ask about out-of-network benefits for psychological or neuropsychological testing.

Do you bill insurance directly?
No, we do not bill insurance directly. Payment is due at the time of testing.

What is a Superbill, and how do I use it?
A Superbill is a detailed receipt with all the necessary codes and information for your insurance company. You can submit it to your insurer for possible out-of-network reimbursement.

What CPT codes should I provide to my insurance company?
Common CPT codes for psychological testing include:
  • 90791 (Diagnostic Interview)
  • 96130/96131 (Psychological Test Evaluation)
  • 96136/96137 (Test Administration/Scoring)
  • 96132/96133 (Neuropsychological Test Evaluation)
We can confirm which codes apply to your specific evaluation.

What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept HSA/FSA cards, credit cards, and personal checks.
