Psychological Testing & Evaluation: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

General

What types of psychological evaluations do you offer?
We provide comprehensive psychological evaluations for children (ages 6+), adolescents, and adults. Our assessments address a wide range of concerns, including:
  • Neurodevelopmental disorders (autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, intellectual disability, tic disorders)
  • Mental health conditions (anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, mood and behavioral concerns)
  • Diagnostic clarification and disability evaluations for treatment planning and accommodations
For a full overview of our services, please visit our Psychological Evaluations page.

What does a psychological evaluation involve?
Each evaluation is tailored to your specific concerns and typically includes a clinical interview, standardized tests, rating scales, input from parents or teachers (when relevant), a comprehensive written report, and a results meeting to review findings and recommendations.

How are the testing sessions structured?
Most evaluations are completed in a single day. In some cases—especially for younger children or more complex assessments—testing may be split across two days. Breaks are always provided as needed to support comfort and optimal performance.

Can any parts of the evaluation be completed virtually?
Yes. The clinical interview and results meeting may be completed virtually. All psychological testing sessions are conducted in person at our Eden Prairie office.

How long does the testing take?
  • Comprehensive Neurodevelopmental Evaluation: 5–7 hours of direct testing
  • Comprehensive Mental Health Evaluation: 2–4 hours of direct testing
  • Abbreviated ADHD Evaluation: 2–3 hours of direct testing
All evaluations include a separate results meeting to review findings and recommendations.

Process & Results

What should I expect during the evaluation process?
The process includes:
  1. Intake and clinical interview (virtual or in person)
  2. In‑person testing session(s) at our Eden Prairie office
  3. Scoring and interpretation
  4. A results meeting (virtual or in person) to review findings, diagnoses, and recommendations
We aim to schedule your results meeting within two to four weeks after your testing session.

Will I receive a written report?
Yes. You will receive a comprehensive written report that includes test results, diagnostic impressions, strengths and challenges, and personalized recommendations.

How are recommendations tailored to my needs?
We provide individualized recommendations based on your unique profile. These may include treatment suggestions, school or workplace accommodations, behavioral or emotional support strategies, and referrals for additional services.

How soon will I get my results?
We aim to hold your results meeting within two to four weeks after your testing session.

Payment & Insurance

Are psychological evaluations covered by insurance?
We are in‑network with select insurance plans. Coverage for psychological evaluations varies significantly by provider and plan. We strongly encourage you to contact your insurance provider directly to verify coverage, benefits, deductibles, and potential out‑of‑pocket costs.

Self‑pay options are available for all evaluations.

Do you bill insurance directly?
Yes, for the insurance plans with which we are in‑network. For all other plans, we are considered out‑of‑network. Payment is due in full at the time of testing for out‑of‑network or self‑pay clients.

What is a Superbill, and how do I use it?
A Superbill is a detailed receipt that includes all necessary clinical and diagnostic codes. Clients with out‑of‑network benefits may submit the Superbill to their insurance company to request partial reimbursement.

What CPT codes should I provide to my insurance company?
Common CPT codes for psychological evaluations include:
  • 90791 – Diagnostic Interview
  • 96130/96131 – Psychological Test Evaluation
  • 96136/96137 – Test Administration & Scoring
We will confirm which codes apply to your specific evaluation during the intake process.

What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept HSA/FSA cards, credit cards, and personal checks.
