Meet Our Therapist

Dr. John Klem, Ph.D., LPC

Picture

I have been in the mental health field for over 30 years. For the past 15 years, I have been a professor of mental health counseling at a regional university. As a counselor, I have direct experience with teenagers, families, and couples. While my experience with adolescents is where I initially learned the counseling process, I now have tremendous experience working with adults. My goal with any client is first to help them understand themselves at a deeper level and then find the resources to achieve their goals in life.

My specialty is my ability to understand and relate to people. I have worked with hundreds of people with complex backgrounds and problems during my career. These experiences have helped me understand people at a very deep level, and I am able to use this knowledge to help my clients find more connection, purpose, and meaning in life.

If you have ever found yourself stuck, having a hard time moving forward, or you seem to be repeating patterns that are no longer working for you, I can help raise awareness and empower you to make change. If your emotions are difficult to manage, you feel overwhelmed, or are unsure how to feel better, I can help give guidance, resolve deep hurts, and stand with you in that pain until we can move forward together. If you are unsure what you want or need out of therapy, I can help educate and provide the best possible experience. There is no wrong reason to seek therapy. Regardless of the reason I am simply here to help.

My approach with my clients tends to be eclectic. I truly believe every person needs something different because with therapy it will never be a one size fits all. With that being said, I pull most from CBT approaches and interventions because it empowers clients to become aware of patterns of thinking and behaviors to take more control over their lives.

Taking that first step, scheduling that first appointment, admitting you need extra support is often the hardest part. Take that risk, and I will be with you the rest of the way.

I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-
Stout in 2012 and then my Master of Science Degree in Clinical Mental Health
Counseling (CMHC) from the University of Wisconsin-Stout in 2016. I became a
Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Wisconsin in October 2018.
I offer a multitude of services for a variety of issues which include depression, anxiety,
grief/loss, emotional dysregulation, trauma, co-parenting education and discord between family members. I primarily work with adolescents, adults, and families. I am trained in Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. I am also an LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapist.

I value the therapeutic relationship and work hard on having clients feel comfortable and understood in session. It is my goal as a therapist to find the right therapeutic modality that serves you and your goals.

I offer services both in person and through telehealth.
